What We Believe
The purpose of this school is to assemble and maintain a fellowship of Christian believers for the worship and service of Almighty God and to seek and call those who are lost by extending to them the Good News of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Southwest Covenant Schools has adopted the statement of faith of Covenant Community Church as follows:
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, called the Trinity – Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are of one essence and equal in attributes and perfections and therefore are to be honored and worshipped as true God. Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19-20; II Cor. 13:14.
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the infallible, inerrant Word of God, a divine revelation, the original autographs of which were verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit, and are the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, to which nothing can be added nor taken away. II Tim.3:16-17; II Peter 1:21.
We believe that the historic person of JESUS CHRIST was GOD INCARNATE, incorporating the mystery of being fully God and fully man. He was, and is, the creator and sustainer of the universe, the bodily expression of God’s indescribable love, the fulfillment of all divine prophecy, and the divine and only provision for man’s salvation.
We believe in His divinity, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His shed blood and suffering on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, is coequal with God in all His attributes, and is sent by the Lord Jesus Christ from the Father, to convict the world of sin, to regenerate, indwell, guide, and teach the believer, and to empower him to live in victory over sin. John 15:26; 16:7-8, 13.
We believe that with the power of the Holy Spirit we can, both individually and corporately, do the designated work of Christ to the honor and glory of God so that His character in action will be experienced by ourselves and be discernible to the world.
We believe that through the Holy Spirit there is a communion or a spiritual unity of all believers in Christ, thus constituting both the visible and invisible kingdom of God on earth.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but in the sin of the first Adam the whole human race fell and, apart from Christ, is spiritually dead and lost. Gen. 1:26; Rom. 5:12; Rom. 3:23.
We believe that salvation is a free gift of God’s grace based on the substitutionary death of Christ on the cross. Spiritual life may be received, not by human merit or works, but through faith in Christ as personal Savior. All who have received salvation through faith in Christ are kept secure in their salvation by God’s keeping power. John 1:12-13; 5:24; 10:27-29; Eph. 1:7; I Pet. 2:24; I John 5:13.
We believe that the Church consists of all those who truly believe in Jesus Christ, that is the body and bride of Christ, and its mission is to witness for Christ among the nations. In water baptism we are making a public declaration of our trust in Christ alone for salvation. In the observance of communion, we are remembering Christ’s death and looking forward to His return. Acts 15:14; Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20; I Cor. 11:23-26.
We believe there will be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; the just resurrection unto life, the unjust a resurrection unto judgment.
We believe the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent, visible and personal. This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.
Being under the spiritual authority of Covenant Community Church, we adopt their Biblical teaching on the sanctity of human life and the sanctity of marriage:
- In regard to the sanctity of human life, our teachings will be consistent with the biblical and historic teachings of the church concerning the existence and development of all human life, including the unborn. Our students will be taught the biblical truth pertaining to their responsibility to preserve and protect the unborn.
- In regard to the sanctity of marriage, our teachings will be consistent with the biblical and traditional definition of the church concerning the recognition of marriage as one man and one woman. Our students will be taught the Biblical truth pertaining to their responsibility to love all people while upholding God’s standard of morality.
